THE MAY 2010 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN
THE LIGHT OF OUR JUBILEE OF JUBILEES
BY Bishop Daniel A. Balais
“Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise” Heb 10:35-36
The much anticipated May 10, 2010 elections have brought tremendous disappointment to many churches, pastors and intercessors in the Body of Christ including millions of our countrymen who have hoped for a truly righteous and God-fearing and nation-loving President in the person of Bro. Eddie C. Villanueva to be elected in the highest office of the land. The revelation of the Philippines’ entrance to our 490th year Jubilee of Jubilees (March 16, 1521-March 16, 2010) has, for the past many months, all the more heightened our anticipation and expectation of the glorious miracle and intervention of God in the affairs of our nation. The actual result of the counting of the very first computerized election in the nation’s history devastated millions of believers from different religious groups and those from a wide spectrum of our society who supported the cause of righteous governance in the land.
The initial automated canvassing of votes shocked all of us, as Bro. Eddie just garnered a measly total of a little over a million votes, a far cry from our anticipated 14 million votes which should have enough to catapult him to the presidency. This pathetic number of votes was even less than the 1.9 million votes Bro. Eddie garnered last 2004 elections when he first took heed of the call of God to run in the presidential elections, the result of which gravely and fatally tainted with the so called “Hello Garci” scandal. Like a nightmare unfolding, the next few days were dark and foreboding.
SHOCK, GRIEF AND DISILLUSIONMENT
Our immediate reaction of this unbelievable result of the May 10, 2010 elections was that of intense feelings of shock, grief, anger, disillusionment, unbelief, doubts, confusion and fears. It was hard to believe nor accept that, after so much prayers, fasting, sacrifices, hard work and vigorous campaign for Bro. Eddie and the Bangon Pilipinas (BP) candidates, we would receive such a pathetic and unjust accounting of our votes, a possible case of another vote rigging and systematic cheating clandestinely done through the electronic counting of PCOS machines. While the leading candidates are already registering 14 million votes, Bro. Eddie only garnered 1 million votes and those behind him didn’t even made it to half a million, the tail-enders didn’t even make it to the 100,000 mark!
THE YEAR 2010: OUR JUBILEE OF JUBILEES
Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy
Before I would share what the Lord spoke to us when we sought His face concerning the horrible result of the elections, let me lay down the prophetic context and significance of the year 2010 so that we would read and appreciate the situation from the vantage point of the new strategic season that God, in His mercy, desires to unfold for us.
Last March 6, 2009, in a prophetic conference sponsored by the Philippines for Jesus Movement (PJM), the Lord sovereignly spoke to me that the year 2010 is our 490th year as a nation and a people. The Lord spoke to me to count the number of years that has passed since we were discovered by Ferdinand Magellan and since the cross was planted on our shores (1521- 2009). It has been 489 years last year 2009, biblically counting! This made the year 2010 as our 490th year! The Lord then brought to my understanding the prophetic principle of Dan 9:24 as what He intends to do in the nation! Daniel 9:24 which speaks of putting to a close the season of wickedness and opening up a new season of righteousness, fulfillment of prophecies for the Philippines and much awaited restoration of our beloved nation.
This revelation was formally brought forth last 20th National Prayer Gathering (NPG) of the Intercessors for the Philippines (IFP) last November 2009 in Cebu City and brought to the fullness two months ago in the series of prophetic and prayer events culminating to the Proclamation of the Year of Jubilee of the Philippines (PYJP) at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) last March 16, 2010. This historic prophetic event was attended by more than 3,000 pastors and intercessors from all over the country. The PYJP was followed by three major Jubilee Prophetic Conferences for the Visayas (CICC, Cebu City); Mindanao (James Barbers Sports Arena, Surigao City) and Luzon (San Juan Arena, San Juan City, M.M.). Bro. Sadhu Sundar Selvaraj, a mighty prophet of God, was our main speaker in the conference.
Bro. Sadhu gave powerful prophetic revelations on what the church needs to do for us to enter our Jubilee season. He emphatically declared under tremendous anointing of the Holy Spirit that the Body has to be one! We must put down the weapons of warfare that we use against each other and begin to forgive and reconcile so that we will all with one heart and one mind be able to call upon the name of the Lord for His mercy upon our land and people. Bro. Sadhu said that the Lord spoke to him that we need to hold a “Three Day National fasting and Prayer Assembly” (TDNFPA) in a big place, a stadium to repent for the sins of the church and the nation as specifically called for in Joel 2:12-19. The whole nation has to be represented. Pastors, bishops, intercessors from the whole Body of Christ must be there. This is the key to the Lord opening up the heavens to the Philippines and releasing such blessings to our nation. The Lord promised that as we do this, the former rain and the latter rain will be poured down upon our land and people.
THREE DAY PRAYER AND FASTING ASSEMBLY
Joe 2:12 Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:
Joe 2:13 And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.
The TDNFPA was immediately done last April 22-24, 2010 at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium where around 12,000 people gathered every night to repent and confess the sins of our nation and cry out for God’s mercy upon the land. For the very first time, the whole 82 provinces of the nation were represented by pastors coming from all the 17 regions of the nation. For three consecutive nights (6PM-6AM), pastors and intercessors represented their provinces and cities to confess the sins of their people and repent for their own sins and the sins of the church. Tears of supplications and cries of mercy filled the night. While the nation is in deep slumber, the intercessors stayed awake bringing our nation before the Lord for Him to show mercy upon us. All the while, the people were fasting both in food and in their sleep. Worship songs serenaded the Lord declaring that He is good and His mercy endures forever!
A TIME TO EMBRACE, A TIME TO GATHER THE STONES
Ecc 3:5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
On the third day of the TDNFPA, March 24, 2010, the crowd swelled to about 20,000 who witnessed the tearful and heart rending reconciliation and release of forgiveness among the national leaders of the Body of Christ in a solemn foot-washing ceremony and corporate celebration of the communion. Bishops and leaders from the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches (PCEC) and the Philippines for Jesus Movement (PJM) came up the stage to forgive one another and wash each other’s feet after some 6 years of separation and bitter differences. There was an acknowledgement of sins committed against the Body of Christ. Tears flowed from the eyes of the Bishops of PCEC and PJM as they humbled themselves and declared forgiveness to each other. Some two thousand tearful pastors witnessed the historic event, bringing an end and relief to long years of enmity.
The presence of the Lord came down as the bishops were caught in tearful embrace vowing not to be separated anymore. The new found unity and love for one another were sealed by the celebration of the Breaking of Bread which was led by the bishops themselves and participated in by the whole congregation. It was exactly 12:00 midnight when it happened. A new day has come! The Body of Christ is one once again! A blast of beautiful fireworks lit up the dark sky marking the new season of grace and unity in the Body of Christ.
“For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light” Psa 36:9
The aforementioned milestone event added to the confusion whether we were amiss in our prayers or we failed to satisfy the heart of God for His mercy to be poured out to the nation. Bro. Eddie did not make it to the presidency, contrary to the conditional prophecy of Dr. Cindy Jacobs (Please refer to the prophecy of Dr. Cindy to Bro. Eddie at PUP Sta. Mesa last March 8, 2009 at the JIL evening service) and prophetic confirmations by Prophet Abu Bako of Ghana and biblical affirmations of Pastor Cesar Castellanos of G12 movement and many other well known international ministers of God. The question then arises: “Are we indeed in our Jubilee of Jubilees? Or are we in for another season of judgment? Have we prayed enough? Have we done enough? The temptation to blame ourselves and each other mounts up. The temptation to declare the prophecies are untrue lurks at the back of our minds.
It is in these times of darkness that we need to turn to the omniscient God, asking His light and wisdom and understanding to instruct us. The patriarchs and prophets of old like Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Elijah and many others were not exempt from the same perplexities that we experience today. They all sought the Lord and inquired of Him. The Lord in His mercy and goodness brought understanding to them and revealed to them His ways. Perplexities are God’s opportunities to call our attention and cause us to desperately seek His face.
The Psalmist said it all: “…in your light we see light”.
Looking back on the prophecies and the actual events that happened, I prayed and asked the same questions that you might have asked. It is in these crucial times when the turn- out of events does not match our expectations that we need to seek the Lord and inquire of Him. It is in His light that we see light (Psalm 36:9). Isaiah 55:8
Isa 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
Isa 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
The Lord spoke to us about the change of seasons: our Jubilee of Jubilees wherein the Lord would end a season of wickedness and open up a new season of righteousness (Dan 9:24). We had hoped and believed that it will be through Bro. Eddie’s winning the just concluded 2010 presidential elections. The Lord however allowed things to turn out contrary to our expectations to which we have prayed and labored much. Does it mean that His promises are no longer good or the prophecies amiss?
Isaiah, the prophet, spoke about the ways of God being higher than our ways and His thoughts higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). In more than 36 years of serving the Lord, I have encountered so many instances that His promises to me were not fulfilled at the time that I expected them to happen. There are even times that the exact opposite happens. In those difficult times, I chose to stand on His word. I fill my mind and heart with His promises and rest in His word. Later on, as I continued to believe and trust in His faithfulness and the integrity of His word, I began to see and experience His promises fulfilled and His word began to unfold. It came to pass not in the way that I foresaw it nor the time that I hoped it would have arrived.
A TIME TO TRUST THE LORD
I believe with all my heart that the promises of God for the nation will be fulfilled. I believe with all m heart that we indeed have entered into a new season for our nation (Eccl 3:1; Acts 17:26). I believe that the Lord will make everything beautiful in His time (Eccl 3: 11). I also believe that the word of the Lord for Bro. Eddie to be president of the Philippines is true and will be fulfilled in the fullness of time. Like Habakkuk, we must cling on to the promises of God and declare amidst all our disappointments and perplexities:
Hab 3:18 Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
Hab 3:19 The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.
If seemingly, the wicked has gained control, we must go to the scriptures and declare the eternal truth of Psalm 37
Psa 37:1 A Psalm of David. Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
Psa 37:2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
Psa 37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
Psa 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Psa 37:5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
Psa 37:6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
Psa 37:7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
Psa 37:8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
Psa 37:9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.
Psa 37:10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.
Psa 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
Psa 37:12 The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.
Psa 37:13 The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.
The whole Psalm 37 exactly speaks to our situation today. We must encourage ourselves and not cast away our confidence from His glorious promises. We have obeyed the prophetic directions of the Lord according to the words of His prophets that He sent to us, I believe that the Lord took our obedience and put into motion the events of this nation that shall usher in His new season. The Lord is not limited by the weaknesses of man, His purposes can never be thwarted especially when it is the fullness of time.
THE “PASSOVER COMMUNION”
Exo 12:3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
Three days prior to the elections, the IFP Board went on a retreat to seek the mind of God concerning the coming elections. During our first worship session, the Lord impressed to my heart concerning the Passover and He specifically spoke to my heart that we need to observe it in preparation for the freedom of the nation of the Philippines through the partaking of the communion by families among the members of our church. We called it the “Passover Communion” since the Lord Jesus is our perfect Passover Lamb! This is our prophetic declaration that indeed the Lord will set our nation free I n our Jubilee of Jubilees. We immediately did it and had been doing it ever since for about a week now. The Lord prepared our hearts for the unexpected turn of events of the elections. Our hearts remain steadfast, trusting the Lord.
The Passover was the time when the Lord set free the nation of Israel from their 400 years of slavery in Egypt (Exodus 12). Every family was instructed to kill a male spotless lamb, paint its blood at the door post and lintel of their dwellings and eat the Passover meal. They were to gird themselves for a hasty journey. It was the night when the Lord will set them free. Likewise the angel of death was to go all over Egypt and in accordance to the words of Moses, slay all the first born male of Egypt. The children of Israel had no idea of how God will deliver them. Pharaoh has been stubborn to let them go. They simply obeyed God and the Lord brought them out of Egypt in a mighty deliverance. Their day of liberty came out in the midst of massive slaughter among the Egyptians. I had a strong impression that the Passover had a connection with the 490 year cycle. I checked my research and indeed found out that from the birth of Abraham to the time of the Passover was exactly 490 years! It was to Abraham that the promise to set his descendants free came (Gen 15:13-14). Israel was therefore set free not because they deserved it: they were set free because of God’s covenant faithfulness to His promises!
It was the obedience of God’s people (Israel) to God’s specific commands in the Passover that saved them from harm and brought forth their deliverance from 400 years of bondage in Egypt. It is our obedience to God’s specific word for us that will ultimately bring this nation to her Jubilee no matter what the enemy does to delay or subvert it. 490 years have passed, let us not cast away our confidence!
COMFORT, COMFORT MY PEOPLE
Isa 40:1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
Isa 40:2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD’S hand double for all her sins.
This is the time to comfort our people, speak comfort to our nation, the Philippines. As we went around our communities during the campaign, we have seen and felt their pain and sufferings. The farmers in the countryside and the squatters among the urban poor, they are crying out for deliverance for many, many years. The “politicasters” (fake politicians) just remember them during election time. They are used, manipulated and controlled by these people who are the main instruments of the devil to destroy and weaken the nation.
The time has come that the Lord says: Comfort, comfort My people! The Lord would like to deliver them if there would be willing deliverers and saviors (Isaiah 42:22; Obadiah 1:21).
Isa 42:22 But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.
Oba 1:21 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’S.
This is our season of Jubilee! Let us work together to be God’s instrument of healing and restoration upon our land. God promised that in the year of Jubilee, every mountain shall be brought low and every valley shall be exalted; every crooked place shall be made straight and rough place smooth. The Glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it all together (Isaiah 40: 4-5! He also spoke that He will do a new thing! He will make roads in the wilderness and rivers in the desert! (Isaiah 43: wilderness and rivers in the desert (Isaiah 43:18-19).
THIS IS THE TIME TO RESTORE AND BUILD UP
Ecc 3:3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
The book of Ecclesiastes speaks of the time to build up (Eccl 3:3). This is the time to build up! When the smoke of the controversies of the past elections has cleared up, when a new government is set in office, let us arise from the ashes of our pains and frustrations and help build up this nation once again. This is our Jubilee season and we will prepare the way of the Lord by working with His appointed season. It is the season that governs the affairs of the earth. It is the Lord, not man, who changes the times and seasons of nations. It is He who removes Kings and raises up Kings in accordance to His season (Dan 2:20-21). It is how His people respond to the season that will determine whether we will fully reap the benefits of the season. If this is the season of God’s favor, let us all have faith that no matter what the enemy tries to do to prevent us from entering our destiny, the Lord will be with us as we determine to pursue it with all our hearts, soul and might. Let us get involved building the nation in many, many ways! Lat us lay down the foundation of righteousness in the eight pillars of our society (family; religion; government; economy; education; science and technology; media; sports, arts and entertainment) to the best of our gifts and the various platforms of service that the Lord has given us. Let us begin to overcome evil with good in many arena of our lives and the community that we live in . The Lord promised in Rom 16:19
Rom 16:20 And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
Psa 102:13 Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.
Jubilee is a specific period of time, a set time for the Lord to show mercy upon a people and a land setting them free from captivity which is the consequence of their sins, transgressions and iniquity. It is the cap of Israel’s kingdom festivals which is anchored on the sabbatical periods of time. The Sabbath comes at intervals of seventh day, weeks, months, years, seven sets of seven years (Jubilee) and the seventy sets of seven years (70×7=490 years), the Jubilee of Jubilees. These are culminations of periods that the Lord provides rest, rejuvenation, restoration and renewal to a people, the land and the nation. Aside from being a culmination of “chronos”, developmental years, the Sabbath and Jubilee are also a state of being that people shall live in. It was revealed to Israel but its principles are Divine Laws that applies to all peoples and nations. The Lord in His mercy have set a “kairos” time for every nation (Acts 17:26). The Philippines have entered the Jubilee of Jubilees this year 2010 (March 16, 1521-March 16, 2010)!
We therefore must conduct our lives, face our challenges, our failed expectations with a Jubilee mindset. A Jubilee mindset is a state of our minds and hearts and being that is firm, is at rest and is confident that: “whatever takes place, the Lord’s grace, mercy and favor and protection shall be upon me, my family, my community and my nation. It is a state of being that is at rest in God and that believes that in the end, the Lord’s purposes shall come to pass. The Jubilee is called the “year of God’s favor” (Luke 4:18). Satan and his wicked instrumentalities might attempt to subvert and destroy God’s plan, but those who trust in God and obedient will in the end eat the fruit of the land and reap the blessings of God’s favor and goodness.
LET US BE STEADFAST IN OUR FAITH, UNMOVABLE IN OUR RESOLVE
Psa 125:1 A Song of degrees. They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.
Let us therefore be steadfast in our faith and unmovable in our resolve. The Bible says that those who trust in the Lord shall be like Mount Zion which cannot be moved (Psalm 125:1)! We have heard the word of the Lord; have believed; have fasted and prayed; have proclaimed; have obeyed and taken action. We left no stones unturned. We had hoped for a righteous, God- fearing man in the person of Bro. Eddie to take the helm of the government of this nation. Satan, our adversary, might think that he has subverted God’s glorious plan by his wicked schemes; we who understood the times and seasons know better! The Lord will turn around everything, and will even use the very weapon of the enemy against him and fulfill His glorious plan in the end! Let us therefore continue our pursuit of righteousness, justice, mercy and truth (Psalm 89:14) in our beloved land for our beloved people.
Let us all the more be zealous and passionate in our pursuit of our destiny and seize our “Kairos” moment with strong faith and confidence in God! The Lord is in absolute control in the affairs of our nation! The Lord is good and His mercy forever endures!
